New Zealand Files Charges Over White Island Volcano Deadly Eruption
New Zealand’s workplace safety regulator has filed charges against 13 parties after an investigation into a volcanic eruption that killed 22 people last year.
The eruption on White Island, also known as Whakaari, came without warning just after 2 p.m. on Dec. 9 when 47 people were onshore. The majority of those killed were tourists from countries including the U.S., Australia and Malaysia who were on a cruise around New Zealand.
